WHO: This Intensive 4 day course is aimed specifically at artists, curators, designers, architects, and musicians and will also benefit those working within the creative arts sector as a whole. Intermediate /Upper-Intermediate Level. The course is open to people of any nationality and age.

CHI: il corso è indirizzato ad artisti, curatori, operatori culturali, designers, architetti, musicisti e tutti coloro che lavorano nel settore artistico e culturale. Il livello linguistico minimo di ingresso è il livello medio. Il corso è aperto a persone di qualsiasi nazionalità ed età.

WHAT: The course will cover General English and English for professionals. This will include modules on Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening. The course will involve whole class work, group work, pair work and solo work. The aim of the course is to teach real English that people can use in both formal and informal contexts.

COSA: il corso è focalizzato sull’apprendimento della lingua inglese con particolare attenzione all’ambito professionale. Il corso è strutturato in 5 moduli: lessico, pronuncia, lingua parlata, lingua scritta, esercizi di lettura e ascolto. Obiettivo del corso è insegnare la vera lingua inglese usata sia in situazioni formali che informali.

TIME / ORARIO:  Thursday – Sunday / Giovedì – Domenica, 10.00 – 13.00 13.00 – 14.00 Lunch break, pausa pranzo 14.00 – 18.00

PROGRAMME: The workshop is structured in 4 days of 6 hours of teaching per day. Each session will include frontal lecturing; warm up exercises, individual and group presentations, linguistic games as well as listening to and commenting on a piece of music and/or a film. Teaching material will include relevant texts along with audio and visual material that will focus on the interests and motivations of the participants.

PROGRAMMA: Il corso è strutturato in 4 giorni di insegnamento di 6 ore ciascuno. Ogni sessione comprende lezioni frontali, esercizi di riscaldamento, presentationi individuali e di gruppo, giochi linguistichi nonchè esercizi di ascolto e commento a brani musicali e/o film. Il materiale didattico includerà testi e materiali audio visivi scelti in relazione ai diversi campi di interesse dei partecipanti.

DAY 1 HOW TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND YOUR WORK:  What is your current occupation and what are your areas of professional/ cultural interest? How do you use or would like to use English in your everyday personal and professional life? In this session you will learn how to introduce yourself and your work and how to build on your existing English communication skills.

SESSIONE I – COME PRESENTARE TE STESSO/A E IL TUO LAVORO: Di cosa ti occupi e quail sono le tue aree di interesse professionale/culturale? Come usi e vorresti migliorare la tua conoscenza della lingua inglese nella vita personale e professionale? In questa sessione imparerai a presentare te stesso/ a e il tuo lavoro esercitando e migliorando la tua conoscenza pratica della lingua inglese.

DAY 2 HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT YOUR WORK: How do you present your work in professional/academic/social situations? In this session you will learn how to present a project by using the correct English. This will focus on the improvement of your English speaking skills.

SESSIONE II – COME PARLARE DEL TUO LAVORO: Come presenti il tuo lavoro in contesti professionali, di studio e/o in situazionisociali? In questa sessione imparerai a presentare un progetto usando correttamente la lingua inglese. Questa sessione sarà incentrata sull’uso della lingua parlata.

DAY 3 HOW TO WRITE ABOUT YOUR WORK: How do you describe your work and your professional experience? And how best to describe your practice? In this session you will learn how to briefly describe a past, current or future project, write an artistic statement or a short professional biography. This session will focus on the improvement of your English writing skills.

SESSIONE III – COME SCRIVERE DEL TUO LAVORO: Come descrivi la tua esperienza lavorativa e professionale? E come descrivi la tua practica artistica? In questa sessione imparerai a descrivere brevemente un progetto (presente, passato e futuro), a scrivere un sommario dei tuoi obiettivi o una breve biografia professioale. Questa sessione sarà incentrata sull’uso della lingua inglese scritta.

DAY 4 (Morning) HOW TO WRITE AND TRANSLATE YOUR CV: This session will explore the vocabulary and common English expressions used in constructing a CV. Participants are encouraged to bring their personal CV’s for a translation exercise.

SESSION IV (mattina) COME SCRIVERE E TRADURRE IL TUO CV: Questa sessione explorerà il lessico e le espressioni comuni della lingua inglese usate nello strutturare un Curriculum Vitae. I partecipanti saranno incoraggiati a portare il loro CV personale per un esercizio di traduzione.

DAY 4 (Afternoon) TUTORIALS: Each participant will have the opportunity to discuss a chosen project or their CV with the tutors. Please note that this is not a professional consultancy session. Rather it aims to encourage participants to use examples of their work as educational material for improving their language learning and communication skills.

SESSIONE IV (pomeriggio) TUTORIAL: Ogni partecipante avrà l’opportunità di discutere un progetto a sua scelta o il proprio CV con i tutors. Si prega di notare che questa non sarà una sessione di consulenza professionale sull’attività di ciascun partecipante. Questa sessione vuole incoraggiare i partecipanti ad usare un esempio del proprio lavoro come materiale didattico onde migliorare le proprie competenze linguistiche e communicative.

ABOUT THE TUTORS

Richard Crow (UK) is a freelance artist, educator and a sound designer. He studied Sonic Arts at Middlesex University (2006) and Music Improvisation in the UK. As a visual and performing artist he has exhibited, performed and presented his work internationally including giving lectures and talks in numerous academic contexts. As an educator he has have been running several workshops on sound and performance, teaching both graduate and postgraduate students how voice and language can be used in text based performance, music improvisation and sound recordings. His workshops are often based on reading English texts and creating sound compositions and interventions inspired by or taken from them. He holds a CertTESOL Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages by issued by Trinity College London. As an English Teacher he has been using his musical knowledge and creative skills in running successful English lessons for intermediate and upper intermediate students, activating the principles of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teaching through language games, visual and musical material. He regularly provides private English lessons and mentoring sessions for Italian artists. Richard is English mother tongue and has lived and worked in London since 1984.

Lucia Farinati (I/UK) is a freelance curator and educator, who has lived and worked in London since 2000. She studied on the Curatorial Programme at Goldsmiths College, London (2004), Public Art and European Cultural Planning at De Montfort University, Leicester (2000) and History of Art and Aesthetics at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Trento (1997). She has taught and lectured in many English art colleges including Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, Glasgow School of Art, London College of Fashion, Royal College of Art, London College of Communications, Wimbledon College of Art, among others. She leads seminars on public art, curatorial practice, sound art with specific focus on self-organising and professional development. Since 2004 Lucia has been a mentor for Italian artists. She is the Director of Sound Threshold, an interdisciplinary curatorial project that explores the relationships between site, sound and text. www.soundthreshold.org
